Cycling, outdoors, parks, trees

Breathe and explore...

No doubt you've noticed something light and fresh in the air that enters your soul, atypical of a city setting.  Trees and open spaces are essential to the feel and quality of life in Charlottetown.

Four parks define the downtown grid. Rochford, Connaught, Kings, and Hillsborough Square sparkle with personality, flower beds and children's playgrounds, framed in by well-maintained mixed architecture.  They also help orient you, as you stroll around, untethered.

If you follow Kent Street all the way to the western end, you arrive at the beautifully maintained Victoria Park.  Work up a sweat on the modern, well-kept tennis courts and baseball diamonds, open park space, and trails through the woods.  There's also a nicely-appointed skate park and a large playground for children with a pool.

Follow the extensive boardwalk as it skirts the harbour, occasionally wending back in through the historic downtown all the way to PEake’s Wharf.

If you didn’t bring your bike, you can rent bicycles through MacQueen's Bike Shop (on Queen St., easy to remember, yes?) at a standard rate of $25/day.

Or put your feet up, let someone else take the rudder, and sway in the waves.  Peake’s Boat Tours offers seasonal tours, starting at $25/person, with extra options for a meal.  And Prince Edward Tours is a popular way to cast away, with great entertainment, meals, and private tours available.  Both dock in Peake’s Wharf.  You can even get a lobster right out of the trap and have dinner on the boat with Top Notch Charters.

Can you see the breath in front of your face?  Is it snowing?  If you’ve answered yes to these question, we hope you’re well bundled.  Consider ducking inside briefly to The Charlottetown Curling Club, and try your hand at launching some rocks.  Ice rentals will need to be reserved ahead of time.  Many of our rinks have open family skates: The Cari-Complex at UPEI, Simmons Rink on North River Rd, and the Cody Banks Arena in Sherwood.

No matter the season – a bright green Spring, a magical Summer, a sweet colourful Autumn, or a crisp thoughtful Winter – Charlottetown is meant to be explored.
