National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Official Ceremony

Monday, September 30, 2024 (11:30 AM)
Shaw Building 95 Rochford Street Charlottetown, PE

There will be an official ceremony of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Shaw Building located at 95 Rochford Street in Charlottetown, Epekwitk (Prince Edward Island).

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation the Mi’kmaq leadership, alongside Premier King, will come together to observe a solemn moment of silence and reflection at noon. During this time, the flags at the provincial building will be lowered as a mark of respect. This year we are honoured to have a residential school survivor who will share her personal story, shedding light on the experiences of survivors and paying tribute to their resilience.

The introduction of a moment of silence in recent years has brought us closer to establishing September 30 as a day akin to Remembrance Day, where all Islanders pause to contemplate the enduring legacy of Residential Schools.

We invite you to join us on this important day, and hope to see you there.
