Your Guide to Theatre & Live Music This Summer in Charlottetown

From intimate venues to open-air concerts, live music is part of the fabric of life in Charlottetown. Charlottetown is fortunate to have a mix of intimate live music venues like The Trailside Music Hall and larger spaces like Confederation Centre of the Arts or PEI Brewing Company. Outdoor spaces such as Peake’s Wharf, Founders’ Hall and Victoria Row really take centre stage in the summer months. Meanwhile, the regular stream of live music in pubs and bars, as well as multi-day music festivals, infuse the city with palpable energy throughout the year.

Deep in the heart of Atlantic Canada sits a small harbour losing hope. The once bountiful fishing village is struggling to survive, and half the population is relocating to the mainland for better opportunities. The community is looking for a miracle when an opportunity arises to bring a state-of-the-art frozen french fry facility to town. There’s just one major obstacle – to secure the factory, the harbour must have a full-time resident doctor. Realizing this might be their last chance to save their beloved community, the townspeople come together to charm an interim doctor into moving there permanently.

This cherished family musical tells the poignant and funny story of a freckle-faced, red-haired orphan named Anne Shirley who arrives at the Bright River Railway Station full of hope for a new life. Her destination is the home of brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert in Avonlea, PEI. With her fiery temper, love of melodrama and romance, and penchant for misadventure, she brings laughter, love, and more than a little consternation to the Cuthberts’ quiet lives. In return, Anne finds the happiness and the home she has longed for all her life.
